Early Sako L579 Heavy Barrel .243
Bearing serial number 12245, this Heavy Barrel .243 was inspected in April of 1960, making it a very early L579 example. It has several unique early features including the flat, checkered bolt knob, half-moon magazine release inside the trigger guard, front sight, and very rare longitudinal grooves on the bolt shroud instead of the checkering common to all later models. The metal is excellent as is the bore of the Bofors Steel barrel. Wood is very clean for a half-century old rifle. The buttplate has been replaced with a thin, non-slip pad, and there are holes D&T in the barrel for target scope mounts that have filler screws. Other wise the rifle is all original and a great find for those who appreciate these early and unique features.
